Locally-based Kuk Sool Won Korean Martial Arts Team launch the event

Glasswells Ipswich store opens its doors

Hundreds of shoppers flocked to pick up pre-Christmas bargains at Glasswells new home furnishings store on Glasswells Retail Park in Ipswich when it opened its doors for the first time this week.

The new 73,000 sq.ft. £5million showroom complements Glasswells similarly sized showroom in Bury St Edmunds, in offering a wide range of home furnishings, table-service restaurant and children's play facilities.

The event was launched with a dramatic display from locally-based Kuk Sool Won Korean martial arts team. Customers were then treated to live music and a range of children's entertainments throughout the store for the opening weekend.

Paul Glasswell, third generation of the family-owned business, said, "We have been planning the opening of a store in Ipswich for the past four or five years. Now the big day has arrived it's very exciting for us all. It is particularly pleasing that such a large crowd of people gathered to be amongst the first through the doors."

"The first weekend's trading and customer feedback leads us to believe that to open this store in the town was the right commercial decision. Despite the economic downturn, we believe we will have a very successful future here," he said.

The new showroom has created 70 new jobs in Ipswich.

Glasswells, one of the largest independent home furnishings retailers in the East of England, has further stores in nearby Martlesham Heath, Bury St. Edmunds, Haverhill and Saffron Walden.
