John Clocked up the Miles for Glasswells
Having worked for Glasswells for over 40 years, John Cooper has decided to call it a day and retire. John, who lives in Stowupland, started working for Glasswells may years ago, in 1962, when they took over a neighbouring furnisher Coles, based in Stowmarket. He then came to work with Glasswell’s delivery and removals business in Bury St. Edmunds, becoming an important part of the team. However, it wasn’t just the excellent job John did for Glasswell’s, it was the tremendous amount of effort he put into arriving at work on time. With no driving licence and living in Stowupland, he not only had to walk the two miles to Stowmarket station and back, he also had to walk the three miles to and from the Kempson Way storage and distribution centre at Moreton Hall, and all before 8.00am (an amazing 10 miles a day). Terry Glasswell, Glasswell’s Company Secretary comments, “John, a very fit man, has seen Glasswells through so many transformations from our time at the Corn Exchange in Bury, to moving the removals and storage business from the old Tollgate Warehouse to Kempson Way plus countless new stores throughout East Anglia - he certainly has lots of stories to tell. All the team would like to thank John for his hard work and commitment and wish him all the best for a long, happy and restful retirement.” |
